Afflicted with a malignant brain tumor in the spring of his senior year in high school, Billy valiantly battled the cancer through three years of treatment while in college. Realizing he was not likely to recover and achieve his dream of a professional career in musical theatre, Billy asked his mom to set up a scholarship in his name. He wanted to make it possible for students who had shown sincere dedication to their art to pursue their dreams in music and theatre.
The Billy Misik Scholarship for Vocal and Dramatic Arts was established in 2006 after his passing and has been awarded annually ever since. A total of 43 merit-based scholarships (average $2000 ea) have been awarded as of 2024. The Foundation was incorporated as a 501(c)(3) in 2007 and continues to support scholarship, performing arts education, and brain tumor research.
Billy had a favorite saying—Carpe Diem...Seize the Day!
Because of Billy, other deserving students can have an opportunity to seize their day andpursue their dreams in vocal and dramatic arts in Billy’s memory.
